Clip Top Drapes and Curtains

Clip Top Drapes and Curtains create a modern and relaxed feel to a decor. They also create an informal feel to a living room space. The top of the drapery is formed with a light stiffening material which provides body along with a sturdy place to attach evenly spaced ring clips. Ring Clips consist of a metal loop with a small spring-loaded clip. They are sold separately and often have a decorative design on the front so make sure you choose the ones that will complement your décor. The clip attaches to the top of the drapes while a stationary rod glides through the rings allowing the full beauty of a decorative rod to stand out. The amount of body and fullness can be controlled by the ring clips spacing which provides a different look and style.

For traditional styling of your Clip Top Drapes, clip the rings evenly across the top of the drapes and slip the rings onto the decorative rod. For swag styling, clip few rings evenly across the top of the drape, allowing the extra material between each ring to form a crescent or swag into a “U” shape.

Grommet Top Drapes

Grommet Top Drapes and Curtains offer a stylish and trendy appearance to compliment your décor. The top of the drapery is accented with functional heavy-duty circular silver or brass grommets which also serve to showcase a clean, decorative rod and finials.

The stationary rod glides through the grommets spreading the drapery evenly along the rod and allowing them to manually open and close with ease. Once installed, the weight of the fabric allows the curtain to fall into subtle rounded folds or pleats. Unlike pinch pleated drapes, Grommet Top Drapes continue the pleat all the way to the top of the drapery hem. This draws your attention upward toward the ceiling and gives a great visual appeal to any room.

We usually recommend Grommet Top Drapes for people who will leave it as a stationary, non-functioning side panels. If the drapes are for areas that require for it to open and close often, Pinch Pleated Drapes are one of the easiest styles to operate. If you love the look of Grommet Top Drapes but are concerned about the functionality, add a shade behind it and consider using it as stationary panels only. Save on Energy Bills this Winter

With all the cold weather, we’re spending more time indoors. Winter bills can get very expensive thus making it a good opportunity for homeowners to be more aware of their energy use and make their homes more energy efficient. Aside from unplugging electronics and appliances when not in use to avoid “phantom” power usage, here are three steps you can do around the house to save money on your monthly energy bills and make it more comfortable at the same time.

  1. Take control of your Thermostat. Set your thermostat to as low as you’re comfortable. According to the US Department of Energy, simply lowering your thermostat by 10 degrees over an eight hour period can save you around 10% a year on your heating bills. You can do this when you’re asleep or away from the house.

  2. Reduce air leaks from windows and doors. Warm air leaking out of your home during the winter can cost you lots of money. Air leaks out of your home through unintended holes and cracks. One of the cheapest and easiest you can do is to weatherstrip doors and windows that leak air. Replacing old windows with energy efficient ones if necessary is a significant investment and can save a lot of money in the long run.

  3. Install ceiling fans. Consider buying a ceiling fan if you don’t have one in your home. Ceiling fans make you feel cooler during the summer. During the winter, run the ceiling fan in reverse (clockwise) direction (make sure you have a fan that are built to run in reverse). This forces warm air at the top of the room to the bottom and center of the room where the thermostat is. This will help the heating system not to trigger as often, saving you energy costs.

  4. Add or Improve Insulation with Thermal Drapes. Replace standard curtains in your home with thermal or insulated drapes. Thermal drapes trap heat to keep your home warm during the winter months. To maximize the benefit of thermal drapes insulating abilities, close drapes tightly at night, and during the day for windows that do not receive direct sunlight. The get the best results, drapes should be hung as close to windows as possible. Also let them make contact onto a windowsill or floor. The fewer gaps between the window and drapes, the better the insulation. FactoryDirectDrapes.com custom-make Thermal Drapes according to your window specifications in whatever style, color or fabric you desire. Simply choose lined drapes and add blackout lining for superior insulation.

Why Lining is important?

Drapery lining is one of the most important things to consider when ordering a custom drape other than color, fabric type and style. Lining is the backing fabric used in the construction of a custom drape. Adding the correct lining to your custom drapes is a good investment. It adds more fullness and body to the drape and also protects the main fabric from the harmful UV rays from the sunlight making it last longer than unlined drapes.

FactoryDirectDrapes.com recommends to always add lining to your custom drapes. Without a lining, even high quality fabrics will fade and deteriorate very quickly. At FactoryDirectDrapes.com, all of our fabrics can have two types of linings attached to it: Standard or Blackout/Insulated lining. Our standard lining is made of 50% cotton and 50% polyester. The cotton makes it soft to the touch and the polyester allows it to block the sun the best way possible protecting your drapes and furniture from the damaging UV rays. Since a standard lining is made from a light fabric, it allows some natural light to enter the room while still giving you the privacy you want.

Our Blackout / insulated drapery lining blocks out 100% of the sunlight from penetrating through the drape. The room darkening effect is similar to what you find at most hotels and motels. It also reduces or dampens outside noise that gets in the room and provides superior insulation against unwanted heat or cold. Experts in insulation values rate insulated linings as reducing hot and cold air by up to 50 %! If you live in an area with particularly cold or warm climates, you have more reason to add blackout/insulated lining on your next custom drape purchase and save on your utility costs. Our blackout/insulated lining is made from the highest quality material available in the market today. It will not crack, peel or bubble. This lining is ideal for ideal for bedrooms, media rooms, schools, hospitals, nurseries and nursing homes. You have the option to purchase it as inherently fire retardant as an extra measure of protection for your family and home.

If you take all of these things into consideration, adding a lining to your custom drapes will cost you less in the long run than buying an unlined drape.

Post Holiday Clean-up Tips: Getting Organized for the New Year

Cleaning up after the holidays is a great time to do deep cleaning, de-cluttering and organizing. In Japan, New Year is a time when homes receive a top-to-bottom cleaning (oosouji). Also, business offices are organized and cleared from clutter and dirt. Oosouji means "big cleaning. “Oo” means "big" and “souji” means "cleaning." Japanese believes that “removing the dirt from the old year” creates a clean emotional state to welcome the new year, and invite prosperity. Here are some quick tips to help you observe oosouji in your home:

  1. Take down your tree. Most people believe you should keep your Christmas tree up until January 5 which marks the 12th day of Christmas. If you have a real tree, take it down when needles start falling off. This means it’s dried out and can pose a serious fire hazard. Don’t throw it away. Many cities and counties have recycling services to put your old Christmas tree to new life.

  2. Organize as you pack away all the holiday decorations. Store ornaments, holiday lights, garlands and holiday pillows neatly in storage boxes, toss decorations you no longer care for.

  3. Donate gifts or items you don’t care for. Do not allow your home to be cluttered with items you do not want simply because they were gifts. Donate or re-gift it now rather than keeping them around house as clutters collecting dust. New clothes for the kids? Before placing them in the drawer, take out clothes that no longer fit or that your child doesn’t wear anymore and put it in donation box.

  4. Clean and organize the kitchen. Toss kitchen utensils that are broken or rusty. Throw away left over uncooked meats and marinades from the holidays.

  5. Tidy things away, wipe, sweep and vacuum through the house. Tackle one room at a time.

Happy New from all of us at FactoryDirectDrapes.com!
