Eco-Friendly Nursery for your Baby

Your baby’s body is growing and developing so he/she is more vulnerable to the effects of toxic chemicals. Make a beautiful room for your baby without compromising on safety:

Paint. Your baby’s lungs are still developing months after birth so make sure you choose natural or organic paints, “VOC-free” or paints that emit fewer toxic emissions from Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) for all the surfaces of your nursery or child’s room. Some of these VOCs are carcinogenic or toxic and have been fingered for contributing to respiratory distress and many childhood disorders.

Bedding. Make sure your baby is getting a comfy and healthy sleep by choosing linens and pillows made of 100% organic cotton, hemp or natural silk. These materials are not only hypoallergenic and soft, they are also free from pesticides, chemicals and other allergens that can irritate your baby’s skin.

Drapes and Curtains. Choose eco-friendly drapes and curtains for your baby’s nursery. Many imported ready-made drapes and curtains emit toxic smell caused by VOCs. None of the eco-friendly and natural drape fabrics we offer at FactoryDirectDrapes.com were subjected to harsh chemical treatments or harmful dyes during the processing or finishing of the fabric. Our line of eco-friendly fabrics include 100% organic cotton, hemp and recycled fabrics and come in a variety of colors.

Furniture. Look for baby furnitures that are made from natural solid hardwood or reclaimed wood that are finished with low VOC's coatings and finishes. Your new baby will sleep an average of 15 hours per day so it’s very important to choose a crib that’s not only comfortable but safe from toxic materials.

Toys. Certain chemicals in baby and kids toys may be harmful and are linked to learning and developmental disabilities. Before you buy toys for your baby, find out more information on which toys are safe and which aren’t.

Fire-retardant Drapes and Curtains for your Home

Draperies, curtains and similar hanging fabrics and textiles used in public spaces schools, churches, senior housing, meeting halls, theaters, stages etc. are required by law in many states and cities to be certified as flame-retardant. Homeowners do not have such restrictions. However, do you know that home fires account for nearly 90% of all fire-related fatalities? One of the most flammable fire accelerators in any home are fabrics like upholstery, bed sheets, curtains and drapes that’s why it is worth investing in fire-retardant drapes for extra protection for your home and family.

All of the fire-retardant drapery fabrics by FactoryDirectDrapes.com are inherently fire-retardant (IFR) and meet NFPA 701: Standard Methods of Fire Tests for Flame Propagation of Textiles and Films developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). This test measures the flammability of a fabric when it is exposed to specific sources of ignition.

Details of NFPA 701 are available here:
http://www.nfpa.org/aboutthecodes/AboutTheCodes.asp?DocNum=701

Unlike fire-retardant fabrics (FR) which is treated with fire retarding chemicals and loses it’s fire-retardancy after washing, inherently fire retardant fabrics have fire retardant threads that’s woven in it. This means that it will remain sufficiently flame retardant for its lifetime even after repeated washings. Also, ANY drape fabric we carry can have an inherently fire-retardant standard or blackout/insulated lining attached to it. Custom widths and lengths ensure a perfect fit.

Visit FactoryDirectDrapes.com today for our wide selection of beautiful fire-retardant fabrics for your home in a variety of colors, fabrics and textures. From the fire retardant fabrics to the last stitch in sewing, your drapes and curtains are proudly 100% American Made!

Tie Top Drapes and Curtains

Tie top drapes and curtains create and casual, modern styling that fits beautifully into a variety of decors. As the name of this style implies, the drapery is literally tied to a stationary decorative rod with shoestring, self-fabric ties reinforced into the top of the drapery. The ties tend to add a delicate, but informal, comfortable feel that draws attention to the top of drape while showcasing and accenting a decorative rod or the window trim. The ties can be tied to the drapery rod like a shoelace or in any number of ways and work nicely as functional panels when used with rings. Since they do not open and close as easily as pinch pleated drapes, we recommend it for stationary applications.

All of our Tie Top Drapes and Curtains are HAND MADE IN AMERICA
by our experienced seamstresses who’s been with our company for more than 20+ and 30+ years!
Our fabrics come from textile manufacturers in the US and are available in different patterns and color to complement your decor. Our Tie Top Drapes and curtains come in three major styles: Lined, Unlined and Sheer. Blackout/insulated lining option is available for superior privacy and insulation. Importance of buying American made products

Some of you may have been aware of the ABC World News series “Made in America” with Diane Sawyer. As part of the series, a family from Dallas, TX took on the challenge to empty their rooms and furnish it with American-made goods. The results are beautiful, well-made products from companies that’s been creating jobs right here in America. For the holidays, the series pointed out that if that if every American spent an extra $64 a year on buying American-made goods on holiday gifts and goodies, it could create 200,000 new jobs in the U.S. Given the high unemployment rate in the country, the desire to support American jobs through our purchases has perhaps never been higher.

What does buying American mean to FactoryDirectDrapes.com? Dining Room Drapes for the Holidays

The dining room is the center of the holidays because this is where we host our family and friends for special Thanksgiving and Christmas meals or parties. It doesn’t really matter what size of a dining room you have, or whether you have a sit-down meal or a potluck buffet. What’s important is to make sure you create that holiday ambience in your dining room where you create special memories with a conversation and a simple meal.

When we think of dining room decorating, most of us think of tablecloths and upholstery. But a quick and easy way to improve the look of a dining room is to add new drapes. Update your drapes in time for the holidays by choosing a new style or fabric that gives your dining room an instant makeover. You would want to pick a replacement drape that would complement your room decor and color scheme. Visit FactoryDirectDrapes.com today, we have a wide array of styles of drapes and plenty of fabrics to choose from. Dress up your window on a budget

Are you on a budget but still want to dress your window in luxury like a hotel or a model home?

Drapes are among the most versatile of window coverings because they come in many sizes, styles, patterns, colors and textures. With so many choices available, it’s best to select your window treatment style and materials by how well they fit with your overall design theme and style of your home.

Drapes can add that luxury high-end feeling to your room without breaking the bank. Along with beauty and elegance, they have their practical side as well. Drapes can add substantial insulation value, especially when lined. Drapes also have the ability to create the illusion of more space in a room. If you want to make your window appear larger, brackets for drapes should be placed 3” – 6” outside the frame. This will make your window look bigger and allow for more natural light to enter your room when your drapes are open. If your window is too wide, break up the space by hanging several panels across the window. They can hang straight, or be tied back in pairs. To create a sense of height in a room, hang your drapes high just below the crown molding. This will make the ceiling seem higher. You may hang drapes anywhere from right above the window frame to just below the crown molding, depending on your taste.

At FactoryDirectDrapes.com, you can eliminate the cost of interior designer by measuring and installing the window treatments yourself. We have hundreds of fabric options, as well as numerous window treatment styles at up to 80% retail! Since 1954 FACTORY DIRECT DRAPES™ has specialized in drapery, curtains, and valances well known for high quality craftsmanship and long lasting durability. Our products are proudly Hand Made In America and we provide a lifetime warranty on all workmanship. Choose from our wide variety of drapes, curtains, and valances and dress your window in style!

Top 5 Basic DIY Projects for Your Home

By Kathy Woodard

DIY projects for your home are becoming more popular than ever before. Homeowners are taking control of their most valuable investment, creating a more luxurious environment for their families on a tighter budget. And all it takes is a bit of elbow grease and some good DIY basic know how. Here are our top 5 DIY home improvement projects that you can get started on today!

1. Painting

Painting your home is one of the most common home improvement projects, and for good reason. No other project can make such a large impact on your space for such a small investment in time and money. Whether you choose to paint your exterior or interior, make sure you start out with a plan. Choose your colors within the theme or style of your home, and make sure your colors flow well from space to space. Learn about color combinations and values before you choose your colors. And remember the most important tip for painting your home; preparation is everything.

2. Installing new sinks and fixtures

You can quickly increase the value of your home by replacing sinks and plumbing fixtures with modern, updated choices. With basic tools you can disconnect the water supply and plumbing, replace the sink and faucet, and reconnect your water supply in a short time. You may want a helper for this job, so one person can be adjusting the plumbing while the other manages placement of the sink or faucet. Try to coordinate a look throughout your home with the same design, style, and finish.

3. Updating Window Treatments

Windows in a  home can often look cold and uninviting, especially at night. Decorating your windows usually should wait until you have a full decorating plan in place, but they are things you can do to avoid “tacked up sheet” syndrome that many new homes contend with. If you don’t already have blinds for privacy, buy curtains online...they install in minutes are it’s an easy do it yourself job. Soften your windows easily buy using clip top drapes. They attach to a curtain rod in minutes, and look updated and contemporary.

4. Updating kitchen cabinets

The most important space in any home is, of course, the kitchen. The kitchen is the most often remodeled home in the room, and the kitchen design affects the resale value of any home. However, one of the most dramatic improvements a DIYer can make in the kitchen is also one of the least complicated. Provided your cabinets are sturdy and sound, refinishing them can save you thousands of dollars, and add instant appeal. You can paint the surfaces, add molding, or use an antique finish to give your existing cabinets a one of a kind feel. While time consuming and a lot of good old fashioned work, refinishing kitchen cabinets can be well worth the effort.

5. Installing flooring

Installing flooring is perhaps the most difficult of the basic DIY home improvement projects, but easy enough to learn. With today’s wood laminate flooring, ceramic tiles and snap flooring systems, any DIYer can get this done in a weekend, with help from a good-natured friend. Consider taking a free class at a local home improvement center to learn the techniques and tools necessary. However, it is not often recommended that wall to wall carpet installation be considered a DIY project.

Once you obtain basic DIY project skills, you can tackle some more complicated projects.
While projects involving light fixtures can seem fairly straight forward, I always recommend leaving electrical projects to the professionals. A licensed electrician can make sure your new ceiling fan, chandelier or sconces are installed correctly, and more importantly, safely.

Most homeowners can drastically change the appearance and value of their home once they learn some basic DIY project instructions. Make sure you take the time to plan, review and learn about your project before getting started, and you are sure to be rewarded with the home of your dreams, not of your nightmares!

Transform Your Room For Less

Sometimes making dramatic changes to the look of a room by re-decorating can be expensive. However, one way to easily transform or update your décor on a budget is to change the drapes or curtains. You will be surprised at the dramatic difference new drapes can make to freshen up your home. Creativity and knowing where to go for the best quality and price can also make this an easy and inexpensive project.

Begin by deciding if you will use the existing hardware (rods) or would you like to replace them with something more modern. Oftentimes, you can use the same rods in a different way to alter their appearance. For example, you can take a stationary rod/pole (non-traversing) with curtains on it and simply add designer ring clips. This will allow you to use a classic pinch pleated drape on the rod and save money to put towards other drapes. Adding a second rod behind your existing hardware will permit the use of a sheer drape or curtain as an economic way to change your window treatments. Or, purchase cost effective standard heavy duty traverse rods in a neutral off-white color that blends in nicely with practically all styles of furnishings. In many cases, the rod can be covered with a new valance leaving you the perfect reason to keep your existing rods.

Choosing a drape or curtain style to suit your environment should be exciting. With the number of options available, it is easy to get carried away with trendy brick-a-brack window treatments that can leave your windows over dressed and your pocket book empty. Pick classic styles such as pinch pleated or tab top drapes and add a stunning valance to define the style of a room. If you want to create a more formal look, include a pinch pleated sheer that can be opened and closed to create an airy look as well as adding privacy. Finish with simple tie backs in the same fabric as the drapes to hold the drapes or curtains back away from the window.

Many times, a valance with your existing window treatments will highlight the drape or curtain and “top” it off adding a perfect frame to your view. If you have mixed types of window coverings in a room, valances on all of the windows also provides continuity to really bring the room together.

The most important way to save money on home improvement projects is to buy directly from the manufacturer. Often, their websites offer free tools and ideas to help you pick the perfect options. Purchasing directly from the factory ensures you are getting wholesale prices without costly mark-ups. You can receive the highest quality by purchasing American made products.

The total impact of your drapes, curtains, and window coverings can be very enriching and add the perfect finishing touch to your décor. Doing it for less will enrich your bank account too! Buying direct from the factory or manufacturer will also save you the costly 50-80% mark-up many retail stores and decorators add onto the product cost.
